Statement from the artist

A few of my greatest passions in life are nature, travel and documenting life through photography. It is my belief that travel broadens one's view, appreciation and respect of the world. Experiencing other cultures, meeting people from other communities and other countries and seeing the beauty--and sometimes the ugliness--of the world has given me the understanding that although we are all individuals our journeys are very interconnected.

Through my photography I seek to document my own personal experiences, to capture locations and evidence of life as I see them and to share the beauty and diversity of the world I've observed. It is my passion for discovery that touches my soul and drives me.

As the images of other photographers have inspired me to explore the world, I hope my own contributions will inspire others to do the same.

Gayle OnnenArtist Bio

It all began at a young age when she first used the gifts her mother gave her - armed with imagination, a deep love, respect and appreciation for animals and nature, an instamatic and a Polaroid, she set out on adventures and explorations to document everything possible. Those explorations continue to this day, leading her on journeys that at one time were only in dreams. Gayle's passion for photography has continued to grow and blossom. She is a self taught photographer with years of experience and has been fascinated by animals and nature since she was a small child.

Gayle photographs by available light, preferring a natural look to her images, and she has the ability to become an unobtrusive observer. Her photographic objective (style) is to capture the beauty and spirit of all subjects, allowing her passion and compassion to show through her work. Whether it is nature, pets, wildlife, landscapes, portraits or evidence photography, she works hard to find the absolute essence of each of them.

She is an accomplished photographer who has spent over 15 years in the forensic and mass disaster fields. Her involvement in mass disaster response has included months of work in New York for 9-11, the Flight 587 crash in Queens, and in Louisiana for hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Aside from forensic photography, she specializes in weddings, pet, wildlife, nature, landscape, portraiture, and concert photography. Her photographs are visions of moments captured in time.

Gayle lost her mother to inflammatory breast cancer on Thanksgiving morning 2002. She turned the pain of that loss into something positive through her photography. She has donated her works of art to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research. She also donates her art to various animal organizations
